John Wardlaw - Principal

John-Wardlaw

Originally a biochemist involved in medical research, John discovered a passion for the law nearly 20 years ago. Over the last 10 years, John has focused his work on corporations law (including capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and regulatory advice), financial services licensing, trusts and commercial property (syndications and development).

John regularly acts for smaller ASX listed companies and their directors, officers, shareholders and underwriters in various sectors. John also acts for unlisted companies, stockbrokers, property developers and small to medium commercial enterprises.

John brings a wealth of experience from his science background (which assists his understanding of the biotechnology sector), to appearances in the Federal Court, County Court and Supreme Court of Victoria, and to participation in an ASIC Focus Group (at their invitation) on the development of policy regarding ASIC’s discretionary powers in relation to takeovers.

John has found that working with the regulators (particularly ASIC) has achieved better results for clients than challenging them in court and John has formed a network of contacts that can be of great assistance to clients who have issues that need to be addressed.
